Doppelpass in Suedafrika

Wow! Das war nicht ohne! Hallelujah!

Blick vom Fransshoek-Pass in Richtung Franshhoek

After breakfast we left Stellenbosch all pumped up and full of energy but we were not ready for the Hellsghoote pass. The name says it all, carrying over 25kgs in our saddle bags not to mention the water that sapped our energy levels. A number of elite cyclists passed us with bikes weighing less than 10 kilograms and they must have pitied us.

franschhoek-passWe never gave up and before sunset we arrived at the Franschoek backpackers where Vilicia a caring sweet lady gave us a room for the night. The next day we left early and had to climb the franschoek pass which pushed us to our limits. We had to stop every 750 metres to recharge our bodies. After 3 horrendous hours we covered 7.8 km to the peak.

We were running late on time and we were worried about where to sleep in Villiersdorp …
